2K Hires Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Challenged Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Lukewarm Response

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the need for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire text from Ismailer's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s positioned to deliver on its potential to our audience.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. After several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most well-known titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the development of the game in the months to ahead.
